Google Analytics will not connect

Connecting Google Analytics takes about two minutes when everything lines up. Here is what to do when it does not.

"Google hasn't verified this app"

This warning is normal for apps that are still in Google's review queue. Nothing is wrong with your account.

1. Click Advanced at the bottom left of the warning.
2. Click Go to PIN Hacking.
3. Continue with the permissions screen as normal.

The connection worked, but we cannot read your traffic

On Google's permissions screen there is a checkbox for viewing your Google Analytics data. If it is unchecked, Google still signs you in but sends us nothing.

1. Go to Integrations and disconnect Google Analytics.
2. Click Connect Google Analytics again.
3. On the permissions screen, make sure every box is checked, especially the Analytics one.
4. Click Continue.

You are signed into the wrong Google account

Many sites have analytics under a second Google account, for example a business account or the one a developer used.

1. On the connect screen, use Not seeing yours? Switch Google accounts.
2. Pick the account that owns the analytics property.
3. If you are not sure which account that is, open analytics.google.com in the same browser and check the account shown top right.

You have Universal Analytics, not GA4

Universal Analytics stopped collecting data in 2023 and its API is closed, so we cannot read it. If your property ID starts with UA-, you need a GA4 property.

1. Open Admin in Google Analytics.
2. Use the GA4 Setup Assistant to create a GA4 property.
3. Give it a few days to collect data, then connect again.

You do not have access to the property

If a developer, VA, agency, or theme provider set up your analytics, the property may sit under their Google account.

Ask them to either grant Viewer access on the GA4 property to your own Google account, or tell you which Google account currently has access. The connect screen has a ready to send email you can copy under Someone else set up my analytics.

No properties found

If Google signs you in but we find no GA4 properties, that Google account has no access to any. Switch accounts, or use the request access email above.

The property saved nothing because it has no traffic

Before a property is saved we run a real 28 day report against it. If that report comes back with no pages, we do not save the property, because a property we cannot read would show you an empty Gap report later.

1. Check that the property you picked is the one your site sends data to.
2. Open analytics.google.com and confirm it shows sessions for the last 28 days.
3. If the site is brand new, wait until it has a few days of traffic, then connect again.
